Your Treatment Guide

Laser Care:
Dos & Don’ts

A little prep and aftercare go a long way. These friendly guidelines help your skin feel its best and keep your results glowing — before and after every session.

What to do — and avoid — before your session

Do

  • Shave the treatment area 24–48 hours before you come in.
  • Arrive with clean, product-free skin — skip lotions, deodorant, or makeup on the area.
  • Pause retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and vitamin C serums for about 5–7 days beforehand.
  • Share any medications, supplements, health conditions, or recent skin changes — it helps us care for you.
  • If melasma is a possibility for you, bring a physician diagnosis so we can treat you safely.
  • Stay hydrated and give your skin a little shade from the sun in the weeks beforehand.

Don't

  • Wax, thread, epilate, or use hair-removal creams in the area for about 4 weeks beforehand — the laser needs the root in place.
  • Self-tan or have a spray tan within 2 weeks of your visit.
  • Soak up lots of sun or use tanning beds on the area for about 4 weeks beforehand.
  • Use retinol, acids, exfoliating enzymes, or vitamin C within 5–7 days of your session.
  • Book while pregnant or breastfeeding without checking with your physician first.
  • Hold back details about skin conditions, medications, or recent treatments — the more we know, the better.

Caring for your skin after your session

Do

  • Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily and give the treated area a break from direct sun for a couple of weeks.
  • Keep the area clean and gently moisturised with a fragrance-free, soothing product.
  • Reach out any time if you notice unexpected redness, blistering, or lasting irritation — we're here for you.
  • Follow the personalised aftercare plan we give you — your skin is unique, and so is your routine.

Don't

  • Take hot showers, baths, saunas, or steam rooms for 24–48 hours afterward.
  • Push through vigorous exercise for 24 hours — heat and sweat can irritate fresh skin.
  • Wear makeup, perfume, or heavily scented products on treated facial areas for 24 hours.
  • Pick, scratch, or exfoliate the treated area — let it heal at its own pace.
  • Jump back into retinoids, acids, or active serums for at least 5–7 days afterward.
  • Head into direct sun without SPF on the treated area.

Active Ingredient Disclosure

To keep your skin happy and your results glowing, just let us know if you're using active products like retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, or vitamin C serums. We simply ask that you pause them for about 5–7 days before your visit — and if you're ever unsure, we're always happy to help you figure it out.

🩺

Melasma Policy

If you have or think you might have melasma, we'll kindly ask for written confirmation of a physician diagnosis before your first session. It's an important step — laser can affect melasma, so we want to be sure it's the right fit for you.

🔒

Safety & Compliance

Our Alpha Diode Laser and 3D IPL are medical-grade devices, Radiation Health Certified and Alberta Health Services cleared. Blissful Beauty Studio is fully compliant with all applicable safety codes and regulations.

What we ask of every new client

When you book with us, you're confirming a few simple things:

  • You'll pause retinoids, acids, and other active products for about 5–7 days before your appointment, and let us know what you're using.
  • If you have or suspect melasma, it's up to you to let your practitioner know — and to bring written confirmation of a physician diagnosis before your first session.
  • You'll share any necessary medications, health conditions, recent treatments, or skin changes so we can care for you safely.
  • You've had a look through our studio guidelines, including the active-ingredient and after-hours notes above.

A full consent form will be provided for your signature at your first in-studio visit. This guide is for your reference — please bring any questions to your appointment.

Your questions, answered

How many sessions will I need?
Most clients need 6–8 sessions spaced 4–8 weeks apart to achieve permanent hair reduction. The exact number depends on the treatment area, your hair colour, skin tone, and hormonal factors. Samarna will give you a realistic estimate at your consultation.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Most clients describe the sensation as a quick snap — similar to a rubber band flick. Our Alpha Diode Laser includes a built-in cooling system to keep the skin comfortable during treatment. Sensitive areas (like the bikini line) can feel more intense, but sessions are short and very manageable.
How soon will I see results?
You'll typically notice shedding of treated hairs within 1–3 weeks after your first session. Visible reduction builds progressively with each treatment. Most clients see significant results after 3–4 sessions.
Does laser work on all skin tones?
Yes. Blissful Beauty Studio uses the Alpha Diode Laser and 3D IPL — both are safe and effective across all skin tones, including deeper complexions. During your consultation, Samarna will assess your skin and hair type to tailor settings for the best results and safety.
What areas can be treated?
We treat most areas of the body, including face, underarms, arms, legs, stomach, back, and full Brazilian. If you're unsure whether your area qualifies, just ask — we're happy to help you figure out the right plan.
Can I shave between sessions?
Yes — shaving between sessions is encouraged. It doesn't affect your results. What you must avoid between sessions is waxing, threading, epilating, or any method that removes the hair root, as the laser needs the follicle to be present to work.
Why can't I wax before my appointment?
Laser targets the pigment in the hair follicle. Waxing, threading, and epilating physically remove the follicle from the skin — which means there's nothing for the laser to target. You must avoid these methods for at least 4 weeks before your session and throughout your treatment course.
Is full Brazilian laser safe?
Yes — full Brazilian laser hair removal is a standard treatment we offer and is completely safe when performed by a trained professional with certified equipment. The device we use is certified by Radiation Health and cleared by Alberta Health Services.
What's the difference between the Alpha Diode Laser and 3D IPL?
The Alpha Diode Laser emits a single focused wavelength and is the gold standard for laser hair removal — precise, powerful, and effective on all skin tones. 3D IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses a broad spectrum of light wavelengths and is primarily used for skin rejuvenation treatments like pigmentation, redness, and texture. Samarna will recommend the right technology for your goals.
What if I have darker skin or coarse hair?
Our equipment is specifically chosen to be safe and effective for all skin types, including deeper tones. We adjust settings based on your Fitzpatrick skin type and hair characteristics. If you've been told elsewhere that laser won't work for you, we encourage you to book a consultation — the technology has come a long way.
